Homeowners Insurance

Rising Home Insurance Costs are Unfair and Unreasonable.

The State of Florida recently admitted that Florida’s largest home insurance company, Citizens Insurance Company, which insures over one million Florida homes, is now insolvent and unable to pay homeowners’ anticipated claims for hurricane losses in 2024.

In the last few years, a large number of home insurance companies have declared bankruptcy and were unable to pay homeowners claims for hurricane losses.  In addition, many insurance companies have left the State altogether, leaving Floridians uninsured, unprotected and unable to rebuild their homes.  Meanwhile, Florida has the highest home insurance rates in the country and insurance premiums continue to rise.

Not only are coastal cities impacted, but all homes across the state are also affected by insolvent insurance companies. Congress and Florida Republicans have done little to reduce high insurance rates paid by FloridiansOutrageous!

The Rush Home Insurance Plan:

Brian Rush has a plan for a Federal and State partnership to protect our homes from catastrophic damages and insurer bankruptcy arising from any natural disaster, especially hurricanes.  This partnership will not only bring down the cost of insurance, but also will stabilize the insurance market for all Floridians.  Under Brian Rush’s plan, Florida will be able to freeze and then reduce insurance premiums across Florida.

“It is unfair for the insurance industry to hand Florida homeowners bigger and bigger bills each year, and then declare bankruptcy and abandon Florida when it is time to pay for homeowners losses.”

“Rick Scott and Republican extremists have failed to lower home insurance costs for Florida families.  The Rush Plan will create a safety net for Florida homeowners damaged by natural disasters and reign in the uncontrolled home owner insurance rate hikes that only benefit wealthy corporations and executives”.
