Reducing Gun Violence

Increases in gun violence across the United States calls for serious reforms to reduce gun violence and violent crime, while simultaneously addressing the epidemic of mental illness as it relates to gun violence.

Brian Rush supports raising to 26 the minimum age to purchase, own or possess semi-automatic military style assault rifles, military grade ammunition and high-capacity magazines.

Brian Rush supports increased criminal penalties for gun trafficking, purchase or sale of large quantities of guns for resale to criminals and the possession of modified assault rifles, including bump stock devices.  Weapons of war which mimic the function and lethality of machine guns should be securely regulated.

Brian Rush also supports increased mental health funding in schools to help intercept troubled youth before they commit violent attacks.  Brian Rush also supports continued mental health treatment for those adults experiencing the serious effects of mental illness and distress, especially as they relate to gun violence.
